Prof. Dr. İsmail Doruk Koçyiğit
I was admitted to Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry in 1997, which was among my top three choices. In my first year at university, I set my goal to pursue a doctoral degree in the Department of Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery after graduation. I began my doctoral program at the same university in 2002.
In October 2008, I completed my doctoral program with a thesis focused on distraction, bone histology, and reconstruction.Throughout my six-year doctoral program and eleven years at my faculty in total, I developed expertise and conducted academic work in the correction of maxillofacial deformities, treatment of maxillofacial fractures, bone and soft tissue reconstruction, TMJ diseases and surgery, and dental implantology.
At the end of 2008, with a swift and enthusiastic decision, I chose an academic career and began working at the newly established Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery clinic of Kırıkkale University. I was away from this unit, where I still actively work, for one year during my compulsory military service at GATA Haydarpaşa Training and Research Hospital under the Ministry of National Defense.
Throughout my entire education, heeding the advice of those whose vision I followed and aspired to in my own development, I visited Guys’ & St. Thomas and Guildford Royal Surrey County Hospital in London, England, as a visiting doctor in their OMFS and Cleft Services, gaining the most significant experiences of my professional life.
In 2020, I received the title of Professor and am currently working in Orthognathic Surgery, TMJ Surgery, Dental & Zygomatic Implants, and Jaw Reconstruction.
